Is Light Rail the answer?

Is light rail really the answer to the mass transit woes of Western Sydney, particularly the North-west sector?  If it is, are the priorities on the mark?

The proposed light rail system indicates that the first stage will be the West Central Line from Castle Hill to Bankstown. Second priority is the Carlingford Line from Westmead to Carlingford and third is the Macquarie Line which joins Macquarie Park to the Carlingford line.

My question is that the bulk of new residences and housing developments are going up in the Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Parklea areas and yet the Western Sydney Light Rail Link to these areas is still only indicated as “proposed”, which means it is a long, long way off; and that is after the long process from proposal to decision (if ever).  This is the area of bottle neck. It is these areas which have two and three car households driving to and from work and school each day and that causes an increasing bottleneck on the major arteries such as the M2 and Victoria Rd. Our own major arteries, the two Windsor Rds are also incessantly clogged.

The situation continues to deteriorate and whatever the answer, let’s get the priorities right.
